TOKYO, Jan 11: Japan Innovation Party (Nippon Ishin no Kai) leader Hirofumi Yoshimura stated that during a conversation with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, she had indicated her readiness to dissolve the parliament early.
“The decision to dissolve parliament is the prime minister’s prerogative. If such a decision is made, we are ready to fight at any moment. The day before yesterday, we had a brief private conversation. The prime minister didn’t mention a specific timeframe for dissolving parliament at the very beginning of the year, but there was a moment in our conversation when we mentioned that ‘the scene has changed,’ so I’m not surprised by media reports [about a possible dissolution],” Yoshimura said, speaking live on the NHK broadcaster.
The dissolution of parliament by Takaichi this year was expected, but if it happens, “it will be faster than I thought,” Yoshihiko Noda, the leader of the opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, told NHK.
Sanae Takaichi became Japan’s first female prime minister and formed her cabinet on October 21 last year. (UNI)
