Jammu’s twin shields in times of War

Ankit Sharma
In the late hours of 08 May, the Jammu region faced a significant threat as Pakistan launched a coordinated drone and missile attack targeting key military installations in Jammu, Udhampur and Pathankot. The Indian Armed Forces responded swiftly, successfully neutralising over 50 drones and intercepting multiple missiles, ensuring no casualties or material damage occurred. This act of aggression is a stark reminder of the times we live in, where threats are not just physical, but also psychological and digital.
The Indian Army’s decisive action underscores the importance of allowing our soldiers to perform their duties without interference. Their silent vigilance and readiness are our first line of defence. As citizens, our role is to support them by maintaining calm and refraining from actions that could compromise security operations. Live streaming of our military actions, as done by a few WhatsApp Scholars last night, could prove fatal and should be avoided at all costs.
THE MONK’S WAY
In times of crisis, adopting a monk-like mindset can be invaluable. Staying calm, composed and mindful helps prevent the spread of panic and misinformation. It’s crucial to avoid sharing unverified news on social media, as misinformation can aid adversaries in Information Warfare. The Monk’s approach teaches us not to act out of fear but with clarity. And in that spirit, here are some essential Do’s and Dont’s.
GUDIELINES FOR CITIZENS
DO’s
Stay calm. Maintain peace in your homes.
Maintain a complete blackout when required.
Check your neighbours, especially the elderly, children and those in need.
Stay alert, especially during the night hours. Our bravehearts of Jammu, remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local authorities.
Follow verified news from official channels and defense briefings.
Support local administration and the Armed Forces with full faith.
DON’T:
Don’t panic. Panic weakens the spirit and spreads faster than any threat.
Don’t share everything you hear or see on social media. Unverified information can be used as a weapon in Information Warfare.
Don’t speculate or forward military updates unless issued by official sources.
Don’t interfere with any ongoing security operations
