JAMMU, Aug 25: Socio-political activist Jayesh Gupta today launched a sharp critique against the authorities over the deplorable condition of roads in Jammu City, terming it a glaring example of mismanagement under the so-called Smart City project.
Gupta highlighted that several major roads, including Janipur-Kot Bhalwal Road, Talab Tillo Road and RS Pura Road, have been left in a dilapidated state. “At many places, the road surface has completely worn out, while large potholes have emerged on several stretches, making two-wheeler movement highly risky. Daily accidents are being reported as people try to avoid potholes while driving,” he said.
Pointing towards the recently carried out repairs, Gupta said, “The shocking part is that many roads which were repaired just in May and June this year have already developed deep cracks and potholes. This clearly reflects the use of sub-standard material and lack of accountability in the execution of works.”
He said that such conditions mock the very idea of Jammu being developed as a Smart City. “Roads are the basic face of any city, and when these very roads are in the worst possible condition, how can one call it a Smart City? This is nothing short of a betrayal of public trust,” Gupta remarked.
The activist demanded immediate attention from the concerned departments to not only carry out durable repairs but also fix responsibility on contractors and officials responsible for the poor quality work.
