Jammu officer attends conference at Germany

JAMMU, May 25: Son of the soil, Padam Singh, presently deployed with the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance (Govt. of India) was deputed to represent the country at the World Savings and Retail Banking Institute (WSBI) for a conference on financial literacy held at Brussels, Belgium recently.
WSBI is a global network of savings and retail banks with 110 members from across the world. WSBI aims at leveraging the strengths of all the members to create synergies and to evolve futuristic strategies for the global banking sector and allied matters through innovation.
It also shapes policy and regulatory frameworks in the area through collaborations with Governments and key international organisations such as international Monetary Fund (IMF), The World Bank Group and the United Nations (UN).
Padam Singh, who hails from Jammu, shared with the global audience various policy initiatives of the Government of India in the area of financial literacy, future plans in this regard as well as the outcome of such measures taken in the past, including the legal framework concerning consumer protection. In view of the immense interest and admiration shown by the participants for the projects such as Aadhaar and Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana, Padam Singh made a special presentation for the select members on these topics.
