Jammu facing discrimination in power sector: Harsh

JAMMU, July 10: Harshdev Singh, NPP chairman and former Minister today lambasted the State Government for the unprecedented power cuts being affected in Jammu region especially in the hinterland and far flung areas during the ongoing summer season.
Strongly flaying the callous and insensitive attitude of the PDD, he said that the people of Jammu region are made to suffer the worst nightmares due to scorching heat and soaring humidity with no respite from scheduled and unscheduled power cuts. “Jammu region has been the major sufferer with the Government and its ministers being mute spectators in the face of a critical and crisis like situation with power scenario having deteriorated further during the last few days,” he alleged.
Lambasting the Government for its biased approach, Mr Singh pointed towards the aspects of power distribution within the State. Citing figures, he said that the power consumption between Jammu and Kashmir regions is in the ration of 40:60 respectively but when it comes to revenue realization Jammu contributes more than 66 percent of power tariff with barely 33 percent coming from Kashmir region.
Mr Singh alleged that the power supply to Jammu region has been further curtailed during 2015-16 due to highly prejudicial and callous approach of helmsmen. He vowed to fight such discriminatory tactics tooth and nail.
While seeking a fair deal for Jammu region in power supply, Harshdev further questioned the Power Minister regarding the fate of 150 MMT dedicated coal mine which was promised to be allotted to J&K in the Agenda of alliance for establishing of a thermal plant. He further sought a response from the State and Central Government in respect of the assurance given by Union Power Minister for provision of an additional 440 KV Transmission Line from Jalandhar to Jammu as an alternate Northern Grid connectivity.
