Jammu District Inter-School competitions get underway

JAMMU, May 28: Inter School District Level  competitions in the sports disciplines of Judo, Yoga, Jeet Kwando, Kurash, Gymnastic, Karate, Rope Skipping Under-14 and Under-17 years boys and Tennis  Ball Cricket and Tennis Cricket  Under-17 boys got underway at  Indoor Complex M.A Stadium and Green Field ground,Gandhi Nagar, here today.
In all, about 300 boys drawn from 14 Zones of Jammu District are taking part in the competitions.
The competitions are being organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports under the patronage of Shiekh Fayaz Ahmad, Director General, Youth Services & Sports and under the overall supervision of Madan Lal, Joint Director.
Chanchal Kour, DYSSO Jammu, who is the Organising Secretary of the tournament, declared the competitions open in a simple function.
Speaking on the occasion, she threw light on the importance of games and sports and said that the main objective of the competitions is to select the teams of District Jammu for the next level of competitions.
The winners in various categories of Karate Under-14 boys included Vaibhav Mehta of GD Goenka, Raghav Saini of SNS Jammu, Mumukashu of GD Goenka,  Sanchit of APS Kaluchak and Yashas Dut of GD Goenka.
In Rope Skipping Under-14 boys, Double Under, Aradhya Sharma of DPS Jammu, Vikas Sharma of Shangrila Public School and
Vardhan Singh of Wazir Janki Nath Public School claimed 1st, 2nd and 3rd spot respectively.
The competitions in the disciplines of Judo, Yoga, Jeet Kwando, Kurash, Gymnastic, Tennis  Ball Cricket and Tennis Cricket were also in progress on day-1 of the competitions.
