KATHUA, Apr 10: Convener Billawar Zila Andolan, Advocate Hari Chand Jalmeria conducted four day tour of various areas of Billawar, Ramkote and Lohai Malhar Tehsils.
He visited Macchedi, Kindli, Badnota, Lohai, Baggan, Billawar, Sukrala, Dewal, Dungara, Mandli, Gurha, Sialna, Aglidhar, Nagrota, Kasher, Panjtirthi and interacted with people.
Talking to reporters Jalmeria expressed anguish over denial of District Status to Billawar and demanded early district status for Billawar.
He condemned the Government decision to shift Jail from Kathua to Billawar at Dambra where beautiful meadow of two three villages running into hundreds of kanals has been destroyed along with hundreds of trees and the protest by locals in this regard was ignored.
He said that the Government should give up the plan of constructing jail at Dambra and instead construct some Agriculture University there to boost agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry besides saving healthy environment.
Jalmeria reiterated the demand of construction of Sundrikote Tunnel to connect Billawar with National Highway at Kathua.
He also demanded tunnel at Chochru Gala to connect Macchedi-Lohai-Malhar with Basantgarh Sudhmahadev and another Tunnel at Dehri Gala to connect Billawar Katli with Dhaggar Bani.
Jalmeria opposed the proposal of constructing hydroelectric dam at Panjtirthi of Ujah and said that there is scarcity of water and people of Billawar will be unnecessarily disturbed and uprooted due to this.
