JAMMU, June 2: The leaders and activists of Government Employees Joint Action Committee held protest outside the office of the Divisional Commissioner Jammu in support of their demand today.
Later, a deputation of JAC met the Divisional Commiss-ioner Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal and submitted a memorandum highlighting their immediate concern.
The JAC leaders including Sushil Sudan, Subash Verma, Mohd Farooq, Maheshwar Sharma, Yash Pal Magotra, Kartar Chand Dubey, Vijay Kumar Gupta, Jarnail Khokhar and Jaswant Singh, apprised the Divisional Commissioner that the office timings in summer months used to be from 8 am to 2 pm since the times of Maharaja.
They sought to draw the attention of the Divisional Commissioner towards the Letter Number 403/75-11-873 dated 19-5-2016 sent by his office to the Commissioner Secretary, General Administ-ration Department regarding change in the office time of all Government Departments of Jammu region in summer season from 10 am to 4 pm from the past practice of 8 am to 2 pm.
They expressed that logic given by some individuals and heads of the departments regarding change in working hours is unjustified and unsuitable to employees because the climatic condition of Jammu does not suit employees in summer months.
The JAC leaders requested the Divisional Commissioner that keeping in view the problems and hardships of the employees’ community, the recommendation which has been made to the Commissioner Secretary GSD regarding change in working hours be withdrawn and working hours be made from 8 am to 2 pm as per past practice.
