Snow clearance work on Mughal Road in progress

JAMMU, Mar 21: Many parts of J&K witnessed rain since last night, registering drop in temperature today while MeT office has predicted rain and cloudy weather for the next two more days.
Official sources said that Ramban, Udhampur and Doda districts also witnessed light rain during the day today but the traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and Batote-Kishtwar road kept plying. The authorities have also intensified the snow clearance work on Muhgal Road connecting Poonch- Rajouri with Shopian in Kashmir.
With repeated wind -storms since early morning, some Jammu, Samba and Udhampur areas continued to remain in the grip of cloudy weather. It brought some relief in plain areas of Jammu region from the dust -storm only after some drizzle in the afternoon.
While there was light rainfall in various parts of J&K at different intervals today, others received drizzling. Many parts of Kashmir valley also experienced light rain. There was no Sunshine today and dark clouds continued to hover over the sky showing some decline in temperature. So much so that even Sun didn’t appear today even for a while in some areas.
Reports reaching here revealed that power supply and water supply were snapped in various parts of the region due to repeated dust storms causing some loss to the power infrastructure. Even in Udhampur and Reasi areas, the power supply was not available for hours together due to fault in the power lines.

Meanwhile, the MeT department has forecast thunder storm coupled with rains today and next two days. The day temperature in Jammu today was recorded as 23.7 degree Celsius which was 3.5 degree C below normal. On Sarturday Jammu recorded a maximum, temperature of 31 deg C. The night temperature recorded today in Jammu was 16.8 deg C.
Holy township of Katra Mata Vaishnodevi recorded a maximum 22.4 degree temperature and minimum 16.4 degrees, Bhaderwah town maximum 17.7 degrees C and minimum 7.5 degrees while Batote maximum 18.1 degree C and minimum 10.4 degrees Celsius today.
The MeT spokesman has predicted heavy rain/ hail in many places of Jammu region with gusty winds at a speed of 30-40 kms / hour in next two days. Most of the parts in Kashmir region would also witness rain on Monday and Tuesday. The weather will improve from Wednesday onwards, the spokesman added.
Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 15.6 degree C and minimum 7.4 degrees, Gulmarg maximum 9.6 deg C and minimum 2.0 degrees while Pahalgam recorded a day temperature of 12.9 degrees C and night temperature of 2.8 degrees C today.
Reports from Poonch, Doda and Kishtwar said that with the rain, there has been sharp decline in temperature. The people have taken out woolen clothes again in view of emerging cold conditions.
Meanwhile, the Mughal Road Division of the R&B has launched snow clearance in Pir Ki Gali area of the Mughal Road. It is believed that Mughal Road will be thrown open to traffic ahead of normal schedule this year.
