SRINAGAR : For smooth conduct of annual pilgrimage to holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himlayas from next month, Governor N N Vohra today discussed security arrangements for pilgrims with BSF, CRPF and state police officers.
An official spokesman said here this afternoon that Inspector General of CRPF Atul Karwal and Inspector General of BSF, Kashmir range, Dr Jagat Singh called on Mr Vohra, who is chairman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) at Raj Bhavan here.
He said Mr Karwal and Dr Singh briefed the Governor about the arrangements being made by their respective Forces to support the smooth conduct of the ensuing Yatra and to maintain a secure environment.
Superintendents of Police Anantnag Abdul Jabbar in south Kashmir and Ganderbal in central Kashmir Imtiaz Ismail Parray also called on Mr Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
The police officers briefed Mr Vohra about issues relating to the conduct of the ensuing Yatra.
The hardline Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani has demanded curtailment of duration of the yatra to one month instead of two months, saying it poses threat to environment.
However, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said there was no question of curtailment of the yatra period. (AGENCIES)
