ITO conducts outreach programme with BSF officers

JAMMU, July 10: An interactive session was held at the Border Security Force (BSF) Frontier Headquarters in Paloura, Jammu, led by Romesh Kumar Sharma, Income Tax Officer (ITO), Ward-1(1), Jammu.
The event, organized under the supervision of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar, MP Singh, and guided by Rajeev Gubgotra, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Range-1, Jammu, saw the participation of a large number of BSF officers and staff.
The outreach programme primarily focused on addressing issues related to accurate filing of income tax returns, specifically highlighting concerns regarding fraudulent/fake deductions and TDS refund claims made by taxpayers in their income tax returns.
During the session, Romesh Kumar Sharma emphasized the seriousness of false and fabricated claims made by a significant number of employees, stating that such actions could result in severe consequences under the Income Tax Act, 1961, and the IPC, including heavy fines.
He stressed the importance for fraudulent claimants to file an updated return (ITR-U) to avoid potential legal actions from the Income Tax Department.
Additionally, it was advised that all taxpayers submit their annual returns well in advance of the closing date, which is July 31, 2023.
The session included a questions-answer segment, providing an opportunity for BSF employees to seek clarification on various queries related to income tax. Detailed responses were provided to address their concerns.
