JAMMU, June 14: The irate residents of Vikas Nagar, Sarwal today ransacked the office of Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), Computer Section and furniture items at Janipur M&RE Sub Division today over power crisis.
As per sources, the residents of Vikas Nagar, Sarwal including women ransacked the office of the Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), Computer Section and furniture items at Janipur M&RE Sub Division today. The irate mob also manhandled the officials of PDD including incharge JE Janipur M&RE Sub Division Mohammad Iqbal.
The residents alleged that the transformer installed in their locality was damaged and despite repeated requests it was not repaired by PDD till date.
They added that the mercury is touching 45 degrees and PDD’s casual approach has created manifold problems for the people especially old age citizens and kids.
They said that due to non-availability of power, the water supply also got snapped, which has added to the woes of the residents.
“We apprised officials of PDD regarding damage of the transformer, but they did not pay any heed, which compelled the irate residents to take to such extreme step”, they alleged.
However, PDD has lodged a complaint regarding the incident with Police Station Janipur.
When contacted AEE, Janipur M&RE Sub Division Suresh Kumar Sudan said that earlier due to overloading 250 KV transformer installed in the locality got damaged, which was repaired and upgraded to 400 KV, which also got burnt due to overloading two days back.
“We are on the job to install another 250 KV transformer in the locality in addition to the already installed 400 KV transformer for the convenience of the people”, he said, adding that the whole work is likely to be completed late tonight.
