SAMBA, June 13: The irate residents of Govindpur in Vijaypur tehsil of Samba district today blocked the Vijaypur-Ramgarh road in protest against the power crisis in the area due to the breaking down of transformer.
The protestors including men, women and children disrupted the movement of vehicular traffic on this busy road demanding immediate replacement of transformer and restoration of power in the area.
The also shouted slogans against the authorities and torched the effigy of Government.
The SDPO Vijaypur who rushed the spot assured the protestors that the issue will be taken up with the concerned PDD authorities and appealed the protestors to lift the road blockade. As the SDPO was negotiating with the people the senior Congress leader and former Minister, Manjit Singh also reached the spot and addressed the gathering. While assuring the people his full support he took the authorities to task for not replacing the damaged transformer in the area as people were facing complete blackout for last five days. He also took up the issue with PDD authorities. Later the transformer was installed by the Department and power restored in the area.
