With banners and placards in their hands, hundreds of BJYM activists shouting slogans in support of their demand and against the order urged the Government to revoke the decision on Urdu language and remove discrimination with other languages. The irate BJYM activists also warned to intensify the agitation in case Government failed to concede the demand.
Led by BJYM State chief, Arun Prabat Singh, the activists earlier assembled at BJP district office, Kachi Chawni here where from they took out a massive protest march to SSSB Office and gheraoed it.
The protesters terming the Government order of making Urdu language mandatory for Naib Tehsildar examinations totally unconstitutional and said that it is not acceptable to the people especially of Jammu region as no language can be thrust on them. This is a deliberate ploy to deprive the Jammu youth of getting Government jobs which the people as well as BJYM will fight tooth and nail and they will not allow the nefarious designs of Government to succeed.
“Why special status is being given to Urdu and why the other languages including English, Hindi, Dogri and Kashmiri are subjected to discrimination” read some placards being waved off by agitating BJYM activists.
They demanded equal treatment be given to all languages for their harmonious development.
To avert any untoward incident the authorities had deployed a big contingent of police right from BJP Office Kachi Chawni to SSB office. However the protest passed peacefully.
Later talking to reporters BJYM State president, Arun Prabat Singh told Excelsior that they are committed to take this agitation to logical conclusion. He said BJYM will not allow imposing any language on the youth of Jammu which is not acceptable to them.
Arun said 34 days have passed since the order was issued and despite the protests and memorandums given by BJP and BJYM Government has failed to revoke the decision forcing the people to come to streets. “When the people’s voice is not heard by those at the helm of affairs the masses are forced to launch agitation and come to streets”, he added.
