Iranians barred from entering or transiting UAE, unless holding golden visa

DUBAI, Apr 1 :  Iranian nationals are no longer allowed to enter the United Arab Emirates (UAE) or transit through the country unless they hold a UAE Golden Visa, according to updates on several UAE airline websites.

Emirates Airlines stated on its website: “Iranian citizens are prohibited from entry and transit.”

Emirates and Etihad, as well as the lower-cost airline FlyDubai, made the announcements on their websites.

Flydubai clarified that the restriction does not apply to Iranian citizens with a Golden Visa. In its passport and visa section, the airline noted, “Restrictions on citizenship. Iranian citizens are not allowed to enter or transit. Exception: Iranian citizens can enter and transit if they have a Golden Visa.”

The UAE Golden Visa is a long-term residence permit, valid for five or ten years. It is granted to investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, top students, and highly skilled professionals, allowing holders to live, work, and study in the UAE without a local sponsor.

The developments come amid rising regional tensions. After joint US-Israeli war against Iran, the country retaliated with attacks on multiple nations in the region, with the UAE reportedly experiencing the heaviest impact.

According to official figures, Iran has launched 393 ballistic and cruise missiles, along with 1,835 drones, toward the UAE, resulting in at least 10 fatalities and 171 injuries, including Iranian citizens.

Iran media reported that UAE authorities have suspended the operations of several Iran-linked institutions, including an Iranian hospital, Iranian schools, the Club of Iranians, the UAE branch of Islamic Azad University, and the Imam Hossein mosque.
