JAMMU, Apr 8: State unit of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) has forcefully projected the burning issues of the Railway workers/ labours here.
While highlighting the issues of these poor Railway workers here today, Shiv Kumar Sharma, president INTUC (J&K) said that these workers several time under the banner of Gareeb Behbood Railway Mazdoor Union have been protesting for their issues but the concerned authorities have turned a deaf ear towards their plight.
Mr Sharma said that the poor labours coming from remote areas of Ramban and Mahore area of Reasi and working on the Railway project are suffering a lot. The Central Labour Commissioner Jammu may be directed to visit at work site and see the miserable conditions of the poor labourer and adopt concrete and affected measures to get the Labour laws implemented. The Company management as well as the Railways authorities (who are principal employers) should allow proper negotiation with the representatives of the Union.
Mr Sharma also demanded provision of accommodation for opening of Union office at work site of Tunnel 49 B, employment of local labourers, job to one member of the families who donated their lands for the Govt projects, compensation to those who suffered damages of their houses due to blasts done by the Company at site of work., provision of weekly holiday and earned holiday, duty and wage as per work, medical allowance, bonus, transport to school going children etc.
