JAMMU, Feb 23: The International Mother Tongue Day was celebrated today with great fervor across Jammu and Kashmir as well as outside the state by various educational institutions and other social organizations.
International Mother Language Day was celebrated at SMVDU Katra with mesmerizing performances by NSS volunteers in their mother tongues. The cultural events include poetry singing and dancing performances by volunteers in their local languages. Poetry by Rahul Yadav, Suhani Sharma, singing by Santosh, Kriti Mahajan, Abhikash, Iqtida, Abhishek Yadav, Mridul Salaria and Kirti and dancing performances by Tanushka and Ujaswi made the event a memorable one. Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Balbir Singh, DSW, Prof RK Mishra, Head, School of Biotechnology, Prof Ratna Chandra, T&P Head, B K Bhatia graced the occasion.
The Day was celebrated in Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) with great fervor. The event organized by the Department of Urdu, School of Languages featured a series of programs highlighting the importance of preserving and promoting mother languages. Vice Chancellor, Prof Jawaid Iqbal, in his address emphasized the significance of linguistic diversity in fostering inclusive societies. The event included paper presentations and poetry recitations representing various regional languages. A Mushaira was also organized on the occasion, featuring poets from the University fraternity.
All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS) in collaboration with IGNCA (under Union Ministry of Culture) organized a programme in connection with International Mother Tongue Day at Umang Auditorium, IGNCA Janpath in New Delhi. The function was presided over by Dr Rashmi Singh (Principal Resident Commissioner Government of J&K), Sachchidanand Joshi (Member Secretary IGNCA) and Sadaf Munshi, Prof North Texas USA as guests of honour. President AIKS Ravinder Pandita was also present. The gathering was enthralled through Kashmiri songs by noted singers Pt Dhananjay Koul, Vanshika Bhat and Upasana Pandita. A special issue of VAAKH – the only magazine in Kashmiri Devnagiri script and monthly Naad magazine was released on the occasion.
