RS PURA, Apr 12: The All Jammu and Kashmir Jatt Sabha today organized a convention to celebrate International Jatt Ekta Divas and Baisakhi Mela in the border town of RS Pura.
Chaired by former Minister and Sabha President S Manjit Singh, the event served as a platform to highlight the long-standing socio-economic and political grievances of the Jatt community.
Addressing the gathering, S Manjit Singh revealed that a delegation recently met with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to submit a formal memorandum demanding Other Backward Class (OBC) status for Jatts in Central Government jobs and educational institutions.
He emphasized that the community continues to face significant challenges and requires central-level benefits to ensure equitable growth.
During the event, Singh also appointed Rishab Choudhary as the General Secretary of the Sabha’s Youth Wing and urged members to actively participate in the ongoing membership drive led by Choudhary Sukhnandan.
The convention also saw strong political demands from several senior leaders.
Former MP Tarlok Singh Bajwa called for the installation of a statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Jammu to honor his historic role in the region’s governance.
Meanwhile, former Minister Choudhary Sukhnandan shifted the focus to agrarian distress, urging the Government to immediately assess crop damages caused by recent hailstorms and provide adequate compensation to affected farmers.
Further intensifying the demands, Taranjit Singh Tony pressed for the full release of the Rs 25 lakh relief package for displaced persons, noting that only a fraction of the amount has been disbursed so far.
Adding to this, MLA Vikram Randhawa demanded ownership rights for Chhamb displaced persons over lands allotted to them decades ago.
The event concluded with a call to action for the youth, as Sabha Patron Choudhary Ujagar donated Rs 5 lakhs to the cause and appealed to the younger generation to stay away from drug addiction and contribute toward nation-building.
Former Minister Garu Choudhary also addressed the gathering with several prominent Jatt leaders, including Partap Choudhary, Dwarka Choudhary, Choudhary Jarnail, Choudhary Naresh Bittu, Manjit Jatt, Bachan Choudhary, Mandeep Choudhary among others participating in the event.
