JAMMU, June 24: International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed here today.
Continuing its campaign to create awareness among the students about the harmful effects of drug addiction, Excise Department in collaboration with Jammu Wine Traders Association and Jammu Bar and Restaurant/Hotel Association organized a painting and slogan writing competition on “Drug Abuse and Drunken Driving” at Ved Mandir, Bal Niketan, Jammu. More than 130 children participated in the contest. The department also donated eight ambulances to Health Department for their deployment in accident prone areas.
Syed Muried Hussain Shah, Deputy Excise Commissioner, Executive Jammu awarded the winners namely Jasvinder Manhas, Swarna Rajput, Pooja Kumari, Raksha Thakur and Palak Thakur by giving them cash prizes of Rs 1500, Rs 1250, Rs 1000, Rs 750 and Rs 500 respectively.
ETO North Tinna Mahajan, ETO Entertainment Sourabh Sharma, President, Jammu Wine Traders Association Charanjeet Singh, office bearers of both the Associations and other officials of the department were also present.
To observe International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, J&K Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses in collaboration with GRP Katra organized awareness program on drug abuse prevention in Katra.
On the occasion SSP Ranjit Singh Sambyal along with Rakesh Kumar, Secretary JKSPYM flagged of the awareness vehicle rally carrying messages, banners and pamphlets on ill effects of drug abuse. Besides these anti-drug posters and banners have also been displayed on the roads and public places in Katra, such as railway station, bus stand and petrol pumps. Private and Government schools have also been covered and various pamphlets and banners distributed and displayed. Interactive session with the parents of students of various schools was also held. The pilgrims were also covered under the awareness program.
To observe International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan (BLSKS) in coordination with Sangam Tru Art Production organized a musical play “Nashe Kolo Bacho” in its Saturday theatre series at Durga Bhawan, Janipur, here today.
The play was written, produced and directed by ML Dogra, renowned writer and musical play Director.
The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest Dr Tara Singh Charak, Former Deputy Director, Health Department J&K Government in presence of VK Magotra, former regional director, Directorate of Field Publicity, Government of India, Dr Anju Dogra from Health Department J&K Government and Vinod Dogra, Chief Service Engineer Excide.
Special items to aware the masses about drug abuse including nukkad natak, skits, songs and dance items were presented by the artists. The music of the play was composed by Raju Bajgal, music instructor, BLSKS.
ML Dogra, Chairman, BLSKS highlighted the importance of the “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”, which is being is observed annually on 26 June.
The artists, who participated in the programme were Usha Handoo, Raju Bajgal, KK Joshi, MC Kotwal, Priya, Deepika, Vishali, Himika, Bindiya, Parul, Nitin, Asha, Vanshika, Neelam, Bhumika, Afroz Aalam, Ritik, Deevam, Rahul, Mathali, Mitali, Bodh Raj, Hem Raj, Sakshi, Mukesh, Darshan.
In the end, the vote of thanks was presented by Deepak Kumar Dogra.
