UDHAMPUR, Mar 20: Police have apprehended an absconding narco smuggler, who was evading arrest for the last two years.
Identified as Ranjit Singh (47), son of Gurdeep Singh, resident of Bhattiyan, Ludhiana, Punjab, he was accused in case FIR number 590/2023, under section 8/15 NDPS Act, involving seizure of 65 kg poppy straw. He was driver of the offending vehicle and had fled from the spot at the time of the crime. He had been evading arrest since 2023.
A special police team from Police station Udhampur was constituted to conduct investigations in Ludhiana, Punjab. During the course of the investigation, a backlink was established, confirming his involvement in the case. Based on witness statements and technical evidence, it was ascertained that Ranjit Singh was an accused in the case and had links to the drug network.
After persistent efforts, the accused was successfully traced and apprehended. He has been produced before the court of law for further legal proceedings.
