Inter-state drug peddler held with 17 kg poppy straw

UDHAMPUR, Jan 7: An inter-state drug peddler was held with more than 17 kg poppy straw at Chenani, here today.
A team of Police Station Chenani, led by SHO Raghuvir Singh, while performing routine checking at Motor Shed, National Highway Chenani, stopped an Innova car bearing number PB 01A-9651 coming from Srinagar towards Udhampur.
During search of the vehicle, more than 17 kg poppy straw was recovered from dickey of the vehicle. The driver, identified as Gurpreet Singh, son of Harjinder Singh of Kotha Guru, Bathinda, Punjab, failed to provide any satisfactory explanation for the possession of the contraband, following which he was arrested on the spot.
Police seized the contraband as well as the vehicle and registered FIR number 02/2026 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act in this connection at Police Station Chenani. Further investigation is in progress.
