SRINAGAR, May 1: Bandipora police unearthed an inter-district burglary gang that had struck at various places in Bandipora, Baramulla, Sopore, Kupwara and Anantnag districts of Kashmir valley. Eight members of the gang have been arrested so far and large quantity of stolen goods worth about Rs. 10 lakh were recovered from them.
Police spokesperson said a Tavera vehicle bearing registration number JK01R/3983 was intercepted by Bandipora police at a naka checking, on its search police found house breaking tools like crowbars, hexa cutters and gas cutters. Police arrested the driver Tanveer Ahmad Beigh resident of Lolab, Kupwara.
On his questioning seven of his accomplices Adil Ashraf Shah, Irshad Ahmad Akhoon residents of Kaloosa Bandipora, Javed Ahmad Sheikh, Ghulam Hasan Qandroo, Mushtaq Ahmad residents of Chinkipora, Sopore, Reyaz Ahmad Mir resident of Khanbal and Abdul Gani resident of Dudwan, Kupwara were arrested from different places. Large quantity of stolen hardware items, besides, fertilizers and pesticides were recovered from their instances.
“The gang used to operate meticulously, by stealing pesticides and fertilizers from the orchids of the farmers besides committing burglaries in the shops during the night. The gang used to carry out the crime using gas cutters, hexa cutters and crowbars and used to carry their loot in a Tavera and a Maruti van. The stolen goods were sold at various places in Ram Bagh Srinagar, Naidkhai, Sumbal and Kupwara,” police said.
Police said the gang was planning to loot a gold ornament shop in Anantnag. With the arrest of the gang and the subsequent recoveries from them solved a number of cases including FIR No; 109/2013 of police station Baramulla, 15/2013 of police station Dangiwacha, 79/2013 of police station Sopore, 27/2013 of police station Bomai Sopore and 72/2013 of police station Bandipora.
