JAMMU, Sept 3: The Yonex Sunrise Seniors and Juniors Ranking-cum-Selection Badminton Tournament, organized by the Badminton Association of J&K in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, entered its third day with intense matches across various categories.
The tournament is being officiated by Sukhdev Singh, Anil Gurkha and Preeti Gupta, under the supervision of SAI Badminton Coaches Touseef Ahmed and Vikram Saini. Distinguished guests including Dr. O.D. Sharma, Vice President of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) and Balbir Jamwal, General Secretary of BAJK, were present, along with a large gathering of parents and sports enthusiasts.
Today’s matches witnessed some exciting performances across different categories. In the Boys Singles U-19 category, Bhavdeep defeated Udayan by 21-16, 21-14 in the semifinal and later overcame Kunal Singh with a score of 21-13, 21-16 to secure a strong finish. Shivansh also advanced to the final by defeating Vaibhav by 21-13, 21-18 in the other semifinal. In the Girls Singles U-19 semifinals, Suhani Sharma beat Antima by 21-14, 21-17, while Paavni won against Diamond by 21-13, 21-14. In the Women’s Singles, Krishika emerged as the champion after defeating Unnati Jaral by 21-19, 21-15 in the final, following her semifinal victory over Antima with a score of 21-18, 21-16. In the Men’s Singles semifinals, Raghav got the better of Bhavdeep by 21-19, 21-18, while Bhavya beat Vaibhav by 21-17, 21-16 to reach the final. The Mixed Doubles U-19 final saw Vaibhav and Shrijus claim the title by defeating Samaksh and Zinia by 21-19, 21-13. The remaining finals are scheduled to be played tomorrow, followed by the prize distribution ceremony.
