Institution of Engineers celebrates World Habitat Day

JAMMU, Oct 7: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre celebrated World Habitat Day at Channi Himmat, here today.
A seminar on the theme “Frontier Technologies as an innovative tool to transform waste to wealth” was organized in which large number of engineers, professionals and members of the civil society participated.
On this occasion VN Sharma, former Member REC, Northern Region, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India was the chief guest while, Ravi Chanyal, Chairman, Jammu Centre presided over the function.
Three technical papers on the theme were presented by engineers SC Thukral, PK Nanda and Anil Verma. The speakers dwelt at length about the present state of affairs of generation of all types of wastes in the country and their consequences. Mr Verma spoke about management of e-Waste and suggested ways to convert this waste into wealth.
The chief guest VN Sharma informed the house about the frontier technologies for conversion of waste into wealth. Interestingly, he mentioned about construction of roads from plastic waste mixed with bitumen which minimizes bitumen consumption and enables fruitful disposal of plastic waste.
Vijay Sharma, honorary secretary of the centre conducted the proceedings of the seminar and presented vote of thanks.
