Information Deptt organizes cultural extravaganza

JAMMU, Jan 28 : To celebrate the occasion of 64th Republic Day the Department of Information and Public Relations today organized a cultural extravaganza.
Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand was chief guest on the occasion.
The cultural programme was organised with the collaboration of Government College of Women, Gandhi Nagar.
MLA M.S. Niaz, Director, Information Zaffar Ahmad Bhat, Director, Youth Services & Sports J.P. Singh, Executive Director, Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society Soujanya Sharma, Principal, GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Dr. Kiran Bakshi, Joint Director, Information Inderjeet, officers and staff of the department, prominent members of civil society and media persons attended the function.
The scintillation cultural program showcased composite cultural heritage of the State and left the jam-packed audience spell bound.
While complimenting people on the Republic Day¸ the Deputy Chief Minister said that with the joint efforts of Government and people, the State is marching fast on the path to development and prosperity.
He recalled the enduring commitment and sacrifices of patriots for the motherland and called upon the citizens to contribute in Nation building.
Mr. Tara Chand paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and other stalwart leaders of the country and recalled the commitment of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar for giving the nation a master piece document of governance in shape of the Constitution.
The Deputy Chief Minister lauded the Information Department for presenting great show and for its extraordinary contribution in disseminating information at various levels.
Earlier Mr. Zaffar Ahmad presented a brief resume of the activities of the department. Tributes were also paid to iconic Dogri singer Ghulam Mohammad who passed away yesterday.
The colorful cultural programme depicted the composite culture of the State and showcased varied dance forms of all the three regions. The items included Sarasvati Vandana, Dogri Dance by GCW Gandhi Nagar, Ghazal by Jeevan Sharma, Kashmiri Dance by GCW Parade, Dogri Song by Anupama Verma, Ladakhi dance, Punjabi Giddha by Shiksha Niketan School, Rajasthani Dance and Bhangra.
The Deputy Chief Minister along with Director and Joint Director presented mementos to the participating teams.
