Infiltration bid foiled along LoC in Uri, soldier martyred

Jammu, Aug 13: An Army soldier was martyred in an exchange of fire with terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector today as the Army foiled an infiltration bid from Pakistan.
An official said that the exchange of fire took place in Churanda village near the LoC.
The soldier was identified as Havildar Ankit Kumar, who was on operational duty when the incident took place.
In a post on X, the Army’s Chinar Corps paid tribute to the soldier. “Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of Braveheart Havildar Ankit Kumar, who laid down his life while undertaking operational duty along the Line of Control in Uri, Baramulla. Chinar Warriors salute his immense valour and sacrifice, express deepest condolence and stand in solidarity with the bereaved family.”
Reports said that infiltration bid could have been carried out with the support of Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) with a “strike by terrorists” along the LOC.
The attack, carried out in the Area of Responsibility (AOR) of 16 Sikh LI (09 Bihar Advance Party) in Uri. This comes a day after another soldier, Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar, died while on operational duty along the Line of Control in Baramulla district.
In the meantime, based on specific input, a joint search operation was launched by Army and Police in general area Alachizab in Gulgam forest area of Kupwara district.
Large quantities of war like stores including one pistol, explosives, ammunition and grenades were recovered and operation is still in progress.
An official said that the security forces have intensified their operations along the LoC in Kashmir. They are also keeping a tight vigil at the LoC to prevent any infiltration attempt from Pakistan.
The official said that there are reports that a large number of terrorists are waiting at the launch pads across the LoC in Pakistan ready to infiltrate into Kashmir. He said that to prevent the nefarious designs of the enemy, the troops are conducting round the clock patrolling along the LoC and the forest area near it.
