NAGPUR, Nov 8 : Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday asserted India’s universal thought has reached the entire world through yoga therapy.
Speaking at an international yoga conference here, Fadnavis referenced the global reach of yoga, noting that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the proposal for International Yoga Day in the United Nations, there was no opposition and today more than 150 countries celebrate it.
He said with rising incidences of lifestyle diseases and stress-related ailments, health experts view yoga as a cost-effective, community-based intervention. “India’s universal thought has reached the entire world through yoga therapy,” he remarked.
Fadnavis’ remarks reflect a broader government push to position yoga not only as a traditional culture but as a strategic preventive health measure.
He urged citizens to adopt yoga as a preventive tool against diseases and as a means to manage stress arising from modern lifestyles.
He lauded the Institution’s 75-year legacy of “sadhana” under the mentorship of Rambhau Khandwe and recalled his personal family association with the institution.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari remarked that yoga was once not accorded much respect, but due to efforts like those of the institution, it has gained respect over time both in India and internationally, with new research furthering its credibility as a science.
