Sir,
Glasgow Games which ended recently have once again proved that Indian sports sector has not grown upto international standards.
India could not retain the No 2 position it had earned during 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games but has to be content with No. 5 position with 64 medals which include 15 gold.
The lacklustre performance demonstrates that India does not have a vibrant sports policy which may take all sports matters in hand, including the welfare of players, coaches and other support staff. The various sports bodies as are existing in the country and are ‘championing’ the cause of sports are riven with factionalism and afflicted with mismanagement. The warring factions often fighting over pecuniary and other benefits. Some sports bodies are engaged in legal battles. These lacunae have impeded the growth of sports in the country. The Sports Ministry should not sleep over the urgent matter, and spoil the sports.
Rather, it should wake up to save sports sector in the country.
Yours etc….
