India transitioning from fuel importer to exporter: Gadkari

BHUBANESWAR, Nov 7: India is moving from being a fuel-importing to a fuel-exporting nation, driven by the growing production and use of ethanol, methanol, bio-LNG, CNG, and green hydrogen, union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said on Friday.
Addressing the 84th Annual Session of the Indian Roads Congress (IRC) here, Gadkari emphasized the Government’s strong commitment to road safety through advanced engineering standards, intelligent transport systems, and awareness initiatives to ensure safer and more efficient mobility.
Highlighting the crucial role of road engineers, the minister said their precision and innovation are vital for preparing accurate Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and developing hassle-free, safety-assured highways.
Gadkari noted that the use of bio-bitumen and recycled plastic waste in highway construction is enhancing durability, sustainability, and cost efficiency, while contributing to the nation’s eco-friendly infrastructure goals.
Reiterating the Government’s vision, he said the mission is to build world-class infrastructure rooted in innovation and sustainable mobility solutions.
This transformative approach, he added, will create extensive employment opportunities, strengthen the infra-skill ecosystem, and steer India toward a self-reliant and resilient future.
Speaking on the occasion, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said the State Government is taking decisive steps to expand and modernize the road network through the Odisha State Road Policy and the upcoming Odisha State Highway Authority Act, 2025.
Majhi expressed confidence that close coordination between the Centre and the state will continue to improve Odisha’s road infrastructure in both quality and reach, driving balanced development and contributing significantly to India’s growth story. (UNI)
