SRINAGAR, May 9: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president, Vikar Rasool, said today that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would not secure more than 150 seats in the ongoing elections and that the INDIA bloc would form the Government at the Centre.
Rasool made these statements during a press conference at the party headquarters in Srinagar. He also announced that their candidate for the Baramulla constituency would campaign for the National Conference candidate, Omar Abdullah, who is also an INDIA bloc candidate.

“In the coming days, I am hopeful that we will secure both seats in Jammu as well as the three seats in Kashmir with a significant margin, winning all the seats in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Regarding recent statements, Rasool commented on the Prime Minister’s remarks, describing them as indicative of desperation. “Yesterday, a peculiar assertion came forth regarding supporters of Modi who supposedly had loans worth Rs 15 lakh crores waived off and were awarded major contracts in India over the past decade. Modi alleged that Congress received money from them in Tempos. It is strange that the BJP, which seized the Congress party’s accounts, acquired through donations, is making such allegations,” he said.
Rasool expressed his disappointment and asserted that these statements have further solidified the belief that the BJP would not exceed 150 seats at the Centre. “The Congress party and the INDIA bloc will form the Government on June 4. I state this with full confidence. I hope that after the Government’s formation at the Centre, we will ensure that Jammu and Kashmir regains its Statehood. Issues such as development, unemployment, employee harassment, and agricultural concerns will be addressed,” he said.
He further promised that they would reinstate Statehood for Jammu and Kashmir once the Government is formed on June 4, following the announcement of election results in their favour. “Regarding electricity, we are committed to discontinuing the use of smart meters. We aim to restore the protections lost after the abrogation of Article 370, similar to the safeguards provided by the Maharaja in 1927, ensuring protection in three key areas: jobs, land, and culture. Cultural preservation is essential, encompassing our Gujjar, Sardar, Pahari, and other ethnic cultures present here. The Congress will diligently address these matters, as we have already passed resolutions concerning them,” he said.
