NEW DELHI : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Third India-Africa forum Summit describing it as a ”meeting of dreams of the one third humanity under one roof”, and envisioning an epoch making partnerhsip between India and countries of the continent for the future. India-Africa partnership was beyond startegic concerns; it was an emotional bond, Mr Modi said at the event which is the biggest diplomatic outreach of India to African countries and biggest gathering of African leaders outside their continent. ”The 54 sovereign flags, their brilliant colours have made Delhi a special place today,” the Prime Minister said. Mr Modi assured India’s strong commitment to the development of African nations and in meeting their various challenges. He spoke profusely of the historical and civilisational bonds between the two parts of the world. India and Africa have struggled against colonialism, for liberty dignity and against poverty and hunger, he said.
The Prime Minister said both India and Africa were blessed by demographic dividend having the majority of their population under 35 years.
”As we look to future, there is something precious that unites us. It is youth under 35. If future belongs to youth, this century is ours,” Mr Modi said. He said Africa was already on that path as it was making long strides in economic and social fields.
Despite facing various challenges, including terrorism, Africa’s growth had gained momentum, and he was confident that the countries of the continent would be able to overcome these challenges.
The Prime Minister in his speech also spoke of the potential of cooperation in blue economy and assured them of India’s all help in bridging their digital divide. Mr Modi also talked about the coming Paris climate conference at which he said any agreement should be fair taking note of the needs of developing countries for finance and green technology to take mitigation and adaptation measures. Mr Modi also called for partnership of African countries in fighting terrorism, threat to maritime security and for reform of the UNSC to give due representation to Africa and India. (UNI)
