Increasing network of beggars in Jammu Kashmir:

Jammu Kashmir is a union territory which has a distinct identity in the entire country and the world. On one hand, Jammu is known all over the world as the city of temples, on the other hand, Kashmir has a distinct identity for its natural beauty and hospitality. Jammu Kashmir is a union territory where there are immense employment opportunities and in view of these opportunities, hardworking people from all over the country come here in large numbers to work hard and are earning their livelihood and that of their families by working hard.

Jammu Kashmir is a tourist destination and every year lakhs of tourists come here to visit Mata Vaishno Devi and to see the beauty of Kashmir, which adds to the beauty of Jammu Kashmir and along with boosting business, means of employment are also available and hardworking people are earning their livelihood by working hard.

But under the cover of all this, some anti-social elements or beggars etc. have also settled in Jammu and Kashmir in large numbers and for the last few years, the number of beggars is increasing continuously, which is becoming a matter of concern.

If we look around today, we will see that especially in the areas of Satwari, Asia, Vikram Chowk, Jewel Chowk, Bus Stand of Jammu city and Pantha Chowk, Hyder Pora etc. of Srinagar, such people will be seen begging with small children in large numbers, the matter of concern is that many of them do not even have any identity card, as many times in social media reports, concern has been expressed on this and in a state like Jammu and Kashmir, such increasing number of beggars can be a matter of concern. Here especially in Jammu and the surrounding areas, the way incidents like robbery, theft, dacoity, rape, drug abuse, kidnapping are increasing day by day, it has become a matter of great concern, similarly these people roaming around without any restriction and identification is also a matter of concern for the common man.

Reasons

There are many reasons for the increase in beggars day by day.

  1. The main reason is that these people roam around with small children or beg through many other means and the common man keeps giving them money etc. due to pity or devotion, due to which they easily earn a good amount and do not need to work hard.
  2. Many people are forcibly pushed into this business by taking advantage of their helplessness.
  3. Disabled, old, helpless people are also forced to beg to feed themselves.

There is no doubt that some people may be compelled to do this, but it has also been seen that many healthy young men and women are also involved in this work. The reason for this is that they earn a good amount without much hard work.

Effects

  1. Most of these people do not have any certificates and their roaming around openly without certificates can be dangerous for the society because many anti-social elements can also become a part of this crowd under their cover.
  2. Most of these people are involved in drug abuse etc. and in a state of intoxication, they often commit big crimes.
  3. These people roam around in many areas like villages, cities etc. without identity cards and under the cover of this, anti-social elements also join in, due to which incidents of crime, theft, robbery etc. are increasing day by day in the surrounding areas and kidnapping, rape, loot etc. are heard every day in the city.
  4. Apart from this, these people often resort to abusive language and fights, which has a bad effect on civilized society.

Its biggest effect can be seen in the coming days. These people are away from education and society and are involved in drugs etc. If this is not controlled in the coming time, then these children can go on the wrong path when they grow up.

There is no doubt that humanity is the biggest religion and as a human being, every person should help another person. There is no lack of work for those who work hard. Thousands of people are earning their living and that of their families by doing hard labour in Jammu and Kashmir. But it has also been seen that young men and women of 30-40 years of age are engaged in begging with small children with them.

Begging is a crime and the government should first identify them so that no wrong or anti-social elements are involved in it and also identify those people or groups who promote such activities and take strict action against them.

Solutions

  1. First of all they should be identified and those without identity cards should be thoroughly investigated.
  2. They should be caught and made to work as per the law and children should be taken to children’s homes etc. and provided education and other facilities so that they can be guided towards a better future.
  3. Those who are handicapped, old people etc. should be sent to old age homes etc.
  4. It is possible that during this time many people, especially the beggars of the young generation, run away from here on their own due to fear of hard labour or punishment.
  5. Strict action should be taken against those people or groups who are running such gangs or promoting such activities.

6 Common man should help people with food etc. and not with money, because this encourages them and secondly with this money these people do drugs etc., due to which knowingly or unknowingly we also promote social evils.

Begging is a curse and to end this curse every section of the society will have to work together with the government.

If we all do this together, then along with giving a new life to these people, we can help in eliminating many social evils and by bringing these people on the right path, we can make them partners in the progress of the country.

And with this, those anti-social elements who are posing a threat to the unity and integrity of our country can be identified and controlled.

Let’s move forward together, if the common man and the government work together with full devotion and honesty, then many social evils can be eliminated.
