JAMMU, July 30: Expressing his delight over increased number of Tigers in India, former Sadar-e-Riyasat Dr Karan Singh, who was first Chairman of the Steering Committee on Project Tiger, has given credit for the achievement to those working on the project.
“This is a tribute to the thousands of Forest Guards working in the Tiger Projects and hundreds of Project Directors over the decades who have labored to protect this magnificent animal,” said Dr Karan Singh, who in his capacity as then Chairman of the Indian Board of Wild Life in 1969, was responsible for persuading then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to change the national animal from the Lion to the Tiger.
He further said that for the achievement of reaching the number of Tigers almost 3000, all concerned need to be congratulated from then PM India Gandhi down to the incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
