Increase in border firing, militancy unfortunate: Chib

RS PURA, Sept 5: Senior Congress leader and former Minister RS Chib described it most unfortunate, the increase in the militants’ activities and frequent ceasefire violations by Pakistan in the State.
Addressing a public meeting at Suchetgarh border town in connection with the Seventeenth death anniversary of Shaheed Ramesh Lal, Mr Chib said that the increase in militancy related incidents is due to the soft policy of both Centre and State Government towards the separatists and pro- Pak forces in the State. Mr Chib made a special reference to Hurriyat leader Geelani’s letter to Prime Minister of Pakistan in which he has appreciated the Kashmir policy being followed by the Govt of Pakistan and also the scuttling of NSA level talks by Pakistan Govt, which was to be held between India and Pakistan recently. He said this is ample proof of their functioning in coordination with the Pakistan and Indian Govt should take serious note of it.
Mr Chib also criticized the successive Governments in the past for not paying attention to the residents of border area both on IB as well as LoC and also the pending demands of the refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971.
Paying tributes to the martyr Ramesh Lal, the Congress leader said that Shaheed Ramesh Lal laid down his life while fighting the militants in Poonch sector on Sept 5, 1998. He was serving in 8 Dogra Regiment. He said that people of the area are proud of the sacrifice made by martyr Ramesh Lal. He Said his parents belonged to Deva -Watala (now in PoK) area, which is known for its bravery and heroic deeds.
TS Bajwa, former Member Parliament (Rajya Sabha) also spoke on this occasion and paid rich tribute to the Martyr Ramesh Lal and said that his sacrifice will be a source of inspiration for the younger generation. He also spoke at length about the problems of our ex- servicemen including One Rank One Pension and the residents of the border area of Suchetgarh.
Prominent among others present included Ch Mahinder Singh, Capt Janak Singh, Ramesh Billa, Prof Jai Singh, Krishan Singh, Sub Kehar Lal, Capt Roop Lal, Arjun Singh, Swarn Lal, Sarpanch Harnam Singh, Ch Munshi Ram and Jaswant Singh.
