JAMMU, Dec 12: An income tax awareness programme on various provisions of Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) was conducted today at Aayakar Bhawan under the guidance of the Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS-I), Chandigarh, for Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) falling under the jurisdiction of the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu.
Around 35 DDOs, including Sub-Divisional Magistrates from different areas, attended the session. Rajneesh Kumar Gupta, ITO (TDS), Jammu briefed the participants on recent amendments related to filing correction statements and urged them to clear any outstanding TDS demands within the stipulated timelines.
Officials were sensitized about the consequences of delayed filing of quarterly TDS statements, non-deduction or non-deposit of TDS, and were guided on correct deduction under Section 194LA for land acquisition compensation.
The participants were advised to surrender unused TANs and were briefed on key TDS provisions, including deductions on professional and technical services under Section 194J. Various queries raised by the DDOs were addressed during the interactive session.
