He said the action was taken on the basis of a complaint received by the ACB from an individual who alleged that the duo demanded bribe from him to let him run near the exit gate of the GMC Jammu.
The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the ACB for legal action, he said.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB conducted discreet verification, which confirmed the bribery demand, the ACB official said.
Consequently, he said, an FIR number 06/2025 was registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 at Police Station ACB Jammu.
Accordingly, he said, a trap team led by a Gazetted officer was formed, which caught both accused red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses.
The entire operation was conducted lawfully, and the bribe money was recovered from the possession of the accused on the spot, he said.
Searches were also carried out at the residential premises of both Murtaza Rehman and Himanshu Sharma in the presence of Magistrates and independent witnesses, he said, adding that further investigation is underway.
