JAMMU, July 31: The inaugural function for celebration of ‘Sanskrit Week’ was held today here in the premises of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan (Deemed University), Shri Ranbir Campus, Kot Bhalwal.
The function started with Vedic and ‘Pauranic Manglacharan’ and recitation of songs by the students.
Prof M Chandrasekhar, Principal of the campus, delivered his welcome speech highlighting the Sanskrit tradition and Indian culture.
On the occasion, two Sanskrit scholars—Prof VM Shastri, Ex- principal and President awardee and Prof Jyoti Prakash, Principal, Degree College, RS Pura, were honoured by the principal.
In his speech, Prof Shastri threw light on the importance of sacrifice, knowledge and Guru (teacher) while Prof RD Sharma, OSD Board of Professional entrance Test, Srinagar, highlighted preservation, propagation and transformation of Sanskrit and culture.
In presidential address, DIG Jammu, JP Singh, highlighted the value of Sanskrit language and Vedanta, philosophy in the present context.
The vote of thanks was presented by DR JR Sharma while the programme was coordinated by Dr Suryamani Rath.
