Inadequate fleet hindering SRTC services: Govt

Srinagar, June 23: Government today said due to inadequate number of buses the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) is unable to meet the demands of public at one go.
In a written reply to a question of MLA M Y Tarigami in Lower House, Minister incharge stated that it is the prime responsibility of SRTC to provide hassle free transport facilities but due to inadequate fleet position the demand of the public is not catered in one go.
The SRTC has already submitted the utilization certificates in respect of the fleet purchased under CSS, JnNURM well in time to the concerned agency i.e Housing and Urban Development Department, the Minister said.
The Minister further stated that when the fleet strength of the Corporation improves, measures will be taken to operate bus services in far flung areas.
“The operation of mini SRTC buses from Railway Station Khanabal to Kulgam is under consideration and the matter has already been taken up with the concerned railway authorities for allotting parking facilities at Khanabal Railway Station”, the Minister stated.
