RAJOURI, July 18: A disturbing video that went viral on social media on Friday has brought to light the severe infrastructural neglect faced by residents of Kheta Basan Mohalla in Laroka Panchayat, falling under the Nowshera Sub Division of Rajouri District.
In the video, villagers can be seen carrying a sick person on a cot across a flooded Nallah, exposing the daily struggles of the area’s residents due to the complete absence of road connectivity and a bridge.
Kheta Basan Mohalla, despite having a dense population, remains disconnected from the nearest road. Locals allege that no road has ever been constructed to connect their locality, forcing them to traverse through Nallah and uneven terrain, particularly hazardous during the rainy season. Overflowing seasonal Nallah and rising water levels poses a serious threat to life and health, especially when medical emergencies arise.
The residents expressed their deep anger and frustration, stating that during medical emergencies, the only way to take patients to healthcare facilities is by carrying them on shoulders through dangerous pathways. They also shared that children suffer greatly, as access to schools and colleges is hampered, leading to disruptions in their education.
The video has triggered widespread concern, prompting the local community to make an urgent appeal to their elected representative and Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Chaudhary, as well as the current NC-led government and the LG administration of Jammu and Kashmir. They have demanded immediate attention and action to provide all-weather road connectivity and a small bridge to their village.
They urged the administration to take prompt steps to address their hardship and ensure their inclusion in the path of development.
