JAMMU, Feb 16: An impressive Shiv Baraat (Shobha Yatra) was taken out from Ranbireshwar temple here today on the eve of Maha Shivratri.
The Shiv Baraat was taken out after performing religious rituals and pooja in the temple premises by MLA East Rajesh Gupta, who was the chief guest on the occasion. Bar Association Jammu President MK Bhardwaj and National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) President Subhash Shastri were guest of honour.
A large number of devotees from Jammu and outside the State accompanied the Baraat. Students of Birpur Sanskrit Vidhayala and Sanatan Dharam School also took part in this Shobha Yatra.
Starting from Ranbireshwar Mandir, the Shiv Baraat passed via City Chowk, Indira Chowk, Hari Market, Raghunath Bazar, Residency Road, Rajinder Bazar, Old Hospital Road, Purani Mandi, Link Road, Jain Bazaar, Chowk Chabutra, Pacca Danga and finally culminate at Shri Ranbireshwar Temple.
The people enroute greeted the Shiv Baraat by showering flowers on it. The devotees were also chanting the religious hymens and singing bhajans in praise of Lord Shiva. The people also offered soft drinks, juice, fruit and sweets to baraatis enroute. The bazaars were also fully decorated befitting the occasion.
A chariot of Lord Shiva was the main attraction of the Shiv Baraat. Pandits of the Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust were seen pushing the chariot.
Apart from chariot of Lord Shiva, 14 other jhankies decorated by different religious, social organizations viz Bawe Wala Mandir Bahu Fort, Hudh Mata Trishandhya Committee, Ram Mandir Purani Mandi, Laxmi Narayan Temple Gandhi Nagar, Jamwant Ghufa (Peer Kho), Jammu province Newspaper Vendor Association, Bajrangi Akharha Shalamar Road and Dewan Mandir Natak Samaj Mandli. Bhoot Mandli, Lord Hanuman, Narad Muni and Shiv Tandaav by the artists from Delhi also attracted the people.
The Shiv Baraat was taken out by Shri Ranbireshwar Mandir Welfare Committee and Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust jointly.
President, Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust retd Major General RS Jamwal, Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust Shashi Khajuria along with staff members also took part in Shobha Yatra. The members of SRMWC namely Onkar Sharma, President, Rajkumar Gupta, secretary, Amit Gupta, secretary, Mandeep Sharma, Deepak Sharma, press and publicity Incharge,  Dr Sunny Gupta, general secretary, Rekha Sharma, President Women Wing, Dolly Abrol, general secretary Women Wing, Surinder Bhagat and others also took part in this Shiv Baraat.
All the departments including PDD, PHE, JMC, Police, Traffic Police, CID and Health have made elaborate arrangements for the success of Shobha Yatra.
