IMA holds maiden academic session with Dr Sarin’s lecture on liver health

JAMMU, Aug 24: The newly formed Jammu branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) today held its first academic activity, marking a significant milestone in its journey to promote continuing medical education and professional development among medical practitioners.
The academic session featured a distinguished lecture on ‘Interpretation of Abnormal Liver Function Tests’ delivered by renowned hepatologist Dr Shiv K Sarin, Chancellor of the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, New Delhi.
In his address, Dr Sarin drew attention to the rapidly increasing epidemic of fatty liver disease, pointing out how sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy diet patterns, and alcohol consumption are silently fuelling a major health crisis. He highlighted the importance of early detection of liver ailments and shared practical advice on dietary modifications, lifestyle choices, and preventive steps for maintaining liver health.
Shedding light on the latest advancements in hepatology, Dr Sarin also elaborated on ground-breaking research and new diagnostic protocols for severe liver conditions such as hepatitis and cirrhosis. He dispelled several myths surrounding liver diseases, offering accessible information to empower both physicians and the public to take proactive measures against liver damage.
The session was presided over by Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal, Government Medical College, Jammu, who attended the event as the chief guest. It was moderated by Dr Vijyant Singh Chandel, Professor of Medicine and Gastroenterology, GMC Jammu, while Dr Sanjeev Narang, honorary secretary of IMA Jammu, conducted the proceedings with meticulous coordination. The event was arranged by Dr Anil K Gupta, Professor and Head of Medicine, ASCOMS, in association with Sun Pharma.
The academic gathering drew a galaxy of medical specialists, with prominent participation from IMA Jammu office bearers including Dr T R Raina, chief advisor, Dr Pavan Malhotra, president, Dr Arun Arora, vice president, Dr Vijay Kundal, Dr Neerupama Dogra, besides experts from diverse fields of medicine.
