SRINAGAR, July 29: In a major crackdown on timber smuggling, police in Ganderbal today seized illicit timber and arrested four accused persons.
As per details, the individuals were involved in the illegal felling of green Deodar trees in the upper reaches of Gutlibagh.
“Police Post Gutlibagh received a docket along with a seizure memo from the Forest Block Officer Gutlibagh, stating that on 26-07-2025, some timber smugglers had illegally cut green Deodar trees, converted them into finished logs, and fled the spot,” police said.
Accordingly, an FIR (No. 119/2025) under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Ganderbal, and investigation was initiated.
On the directions of SSP Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal, police said, a special team was constituted, under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Ganderbal, to trace and apprehend the culprits.
After sustained efforts and investigation, police successfully arrested all four accused persons involved in the illegal act.
They have been identified as Mohammad Altaf Khan, son of Qazi Rehman Khan, resident of Baila Wussan; Siraj-Ud-Din Ahmad Khan, son of Ghulam Qadir Khan, resident of Baila Wussan; Riyaz Ahmad Khan, son of Snobar Ahmad Khan, resident of Baila Wussan; and Javid Ahmad Khan, son of Qazi Rehman Khan, resident of Baila Wussan.
The illegally obtained Deodar logs and the power saw cutter were also seized, police said.
