JAMMU, Apr 12: Police today claimed they have seized illegally felled Peepal and Khair wood in Gharota area of the district.
Acting on specific information, a joint team, comprising Naib Tehsildar Aghore and police personnel from Police Station Nagrota conducted a surprise visit to village Nargara, where they found a truck loading illegally felled Peepal and Khair wood for further transportation of the wood, a police official said.
On seeing the approaching police and revenue team, he said, the driver of the vehicle escaped into nearby forest.
The vehicle carrying the wood illegally was seized on-the-spot and later brought to Police Station Gharota, he said.
For further action into the matter, he said, the Forest Department has been informed about the recoveries made from the spot.
