JAMMU, Feb 16: Jammu & Kashmir Police have carried out a major crackdown on illegal mining across Jammu district, seizing 934 vehicles and imposing fines worth Rs 1, 33, 40, 368 between January 1 and December 31, 2024.
A police official said the year-long drives aimed to curb unauthorized mineral extraction, protect the environment and safeguard public infrastructure.
He said, among the police stations, Satwari recorded the highest number of seizures with 300 vehicles, followed by Nagrota (135), Akhnoor (115), Domana (114), and Gharota (36).
Other police stations also played a key role in ensuring district-wide action, he said.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police have warned that illegal mining will not be tolerated.
Extracting minerals from rivers, Nallahs, or restricted areas without permission is a punishable offence, leading to vehicle seizure, heavy fines, and legal action, police said.
They urged the public to report illegal mining activities and assured that the crackdown will continue with greater intensity using advanced surveillance and intelligence-driven operations.
