JAMMU, Oct 3: Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) J&K Regional Branch organized a lecture on “Good Governance and United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals”, which was delivered by Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, Advisor to Governor, Jammu & Kashmir.
Talking about the relevance of the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Khurshid Ahmad Ganai specifically emphasized on the need for innovation, experimentation, collaboration and adopting a multi-dimensional integrated approach to achieve the SDGs. Tracing back the history of development, he said that governance models should adapt to the changing times and should ensure that no one is left behind in the process of development thereby providing distributive justice.
In his presidential address, former DGP Dr Ashok Bhan, while focussing on Goal 16 in particular i.e. Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels, highlighted atmospherics required for making these goals achievable. To achieve SDG, Dr Bhan flagged three issues – autonomy of institutions that make the governance accountable and corruption free; maintain the rule of law and ensure equal access to justice for all; and work towards social and communal harmony.
