IGP Traffic reviews preparedness in view of adverse weather forecast

JAMMU, Dec 19: Inspector General of Police Traffic, J&K, Mohammad Suleman Choudhary, today chaired a review meeting with senior Traffic Police officers to assess preparedness in view of the forecast of heavy rain and snowfall across the Union Territory in the coming days.
The meeting was attended by DIG Traffic Range Kashmir Sheikh Junaid Mehmood, SSP Traffic City Srinagar Ajaz Ahmed Bhat, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir Ravinder Paul Singh, SSP Traffic NHW Ramban Raja Adil Hamid, SSP Traffic Rural Jammu Farooq Qaiser, Additional SP Traffic City Jammu Arvinder Singh Kotwal and other officers.
During the meeting, the IGP directed all officers to remain fully alert and prepared to handle any situation arising due to adverse weather, especially at vulnerable stretches such as Qazigund and Banihal.
SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir and SSP Traffic NHW Ramban were instructed to identify safe locations for parking and holding vehicles in case traffic is suspended.
SSP Traffic City Srinagar and SSP Traffic City Jammu were also directed to earmark suitable holding areas within city limits and regulate traffic movement during heavy snowfall.
The IGP Traffic J&K further instructed that adequate cranes, recovery vehicles and breakdown assistance teams be kept ready at identified locations, particularly along National Highway stretches.
He stressed the need for sufficient manpower, proper coordination for snow clearance, and availability of barricades, signage and other traffic management equipment on the ground.
Emphasis was also laid on maintaining a strong visible presence of traffic personnel, timely dissemination of traffic advisories through print, electronic and social media, and close coordination with district administrations, Police, NHAI, BRO and other concerned departments.
All Traffic Control Units were directed to function round the clock for real-time monitoring and quick response.
The meeting concluded with directions to ensure effective coordination among all agencies and to prioritise public safety during the expected adverse weather conditions.
