IGP inaugurates training programme for investigating officers

JAMMU, Mar 5: Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, today inaugurated a three-day capacity building programme on “Quality Investigation of Cases” at the Conference Hall of District Police Lines Jammu.
The programme has been organised by the Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu to strengthen investigation skills of officers dealing with criminal cases.
A total of 94 officers of the ranks of Deputy Superintendents of Police, Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors from different districts of Jammu Zone are participating in the training programme.
The initiative aimed at enhancing the professional competence of investigating officers and improving the quality of investigations conducted by the police.
Addressing the participants, IGP Bhim Sen Tuti highlighted the importance of professional and legally sound investigation for strengthening the criminal justice system.
He said that changing crime patterns and the introduction of new criminal laws require investigating officers to constantly upgrade their knowledge and adopt modern investigative practices to ensure effective investigation and successful prosecution of cases.
During the programme, officers will receive training on important aspects of investigation under the BNS, BNSS and BSA.
The sessions will cover procedures related to Zero FIR and e-FIR, arrest procedures, search and seizure, investigation protocols and filing of charge sheets.
Special emphasis will also be laid on the role of electronic and digital evidence in criminal investigations.
The programme will further include sessions on the Juvenile Justice Act, POCSO Act and NDPS Act, focusing on handling sensitive cases involving children, victim protection, crime scene management and proper handling of evidence.
Officers will also be trained on investigation of cybercrime, digital forensics and financial transaction analysis, with focus on collection and preservation of digital evidence and tackling emerging cyber threats.
Among those present on the occasion were Shiv Kumar Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of Police JSK Range; Shamsheer Hussain, Staff Officer to IGP Jammu; Himanshu Mahajan, Senior Prosecuting Officer ZPHQ Jammu; and Tahir Amin Sheikh, DSP DAR Jammu.
Resource persons on the first day included Lateeq Ahmad Dar, Director Prosecution CHQ; Amod Nagpure, SSP Udhampur; Kamini Thakur, Advocate at the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh; and Shalini Sharma, Member JJB.
