JAMMU, Feb 5:  2-days Disaster Preparedness Training (DPT) programme conducted by State Social Welfare Board at Pragati Bhawan, Railhead complex Jammu concluded here today.
Inspector General of Police Civil Defence, HG&SDRF, J P Singh was chief guest on valedictory function.
As many as 50 participants from Social Welfare Board, Pahari Board, OBC Board, Schedule Caste Board, Kissan Board besides State Commission for Women and staff of Airtel participated in the programme.
The IG appreciated the organizers for conducting such programme and expressed hope that the training would be disseminated to all sections of the society. He said people, especially youth, should join civil defence as the J&K State is a prone disaster State. He said aim and objective of such trainings is to sensitize people how to rescue people in case of eventuality or disaster. Mr. Singh said that such training programmes would be conducted in all the districts in future.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary, J&K State Social Welfare Board, who is Executive Director of the Board also, said that emergencies come in many forms, and they may require anything from a brief absence from your home to permanent evacuation. He said each type of disaster requires different measures to save precious human lives in case of disasters.
Earlier, a mock drill was held by the trainers of the civil during the training H. C Sharma, Balwant Singh and Constable Rajinder demonstrated various knots and rescue methods. They also demonstrated how floating devices can be made with homemade material which can prove useful during disasters.
On the occasion Deputy Controller Civil Defence Tajinder Kour, Secretaries of various boards, officers/officials including staff of Airtel working in Pragati  Bhawan were present.
Later, the IGP along with the Secretary SWB distributed certificates among the participants.
