JAMMU, May 30: Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, under its regular programme Horizon Series organised a musical programme entitled ‘Jeevan Sharma Live’ at village Palanwala featuring one of the most celebrated singer and composer of Jammu & Kashmir State.
Introducing the programme, Regional Director of ICCR Jammu Balwant Thakur informed that though the objective of the ICCR is to participate in the formulation and implementation of the policies and programmes relating to India’s external cultural relations and other related issues, but under horizon series, ICCR showcases best of the talents in performing arts and the council takes pride in presenting before public the live performances of Jeevan Sharma who has the credit of having completed 50 years of his singing career.
Giving a brief sketch of the singer, Balwant Thakur informed that Jeevan Sharma is one of the most celebrated singers of the State who is credited with having accompanied legendary singers like Aasha Bhonsle and has been honoured numerously in the singing competitions organised by J&K Cultural Academy and Association of Indian Universities. Having performed in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand Jeevan has extensively travelled to spread the fragrance of his art through his soulful singing.
Jeevan Sharma was accompanied by yet another celebrated musician Ravi Sharma on Santoor. Credited for having performed Internationally, Ravi Sharma also presented his solo items and vibrated the entire environment musically with his favourite Pahari tunes. Demonstrating his command over this unique instrument, Ravi Sharma presented varied range of his Santoor playing. Neeraj Verma accompanied both the musicians on Tabla and won repeated appreciation for his intelligent and most appropriate accompaniment.
