JAMMU, Aug 1: J&K Branch of the Northern India Regional Council (NIRC) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), in collaboration with the Income Tax Department, J&K, successfully hosted a TDS Outreach Programme today at ICAI Bhawan, Jammu.
The event witnessed active participation from members of the profession, officials of the Income Tax Department, DDOs, and key stakeholders from across the region.
The programme commenced with the presentation of roses to dignitaries and lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by the solemn rendition of the ICAI Motto Song.
Delivering the inaugural address, Sourav Pargal, Chairman of the J&K Branch, emphasized the growing relevance of TDS compliance in today’s tax regime. He highlighted the ICAI’s continued commitment to acting as a bridge between tax authorities and taxpayers, thereby ensuring better compliance and capacity building through such outreach initiatives.
The technical sessions featured comprehensive insights from Anshuman Sharma, Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS-I), Chandigarh; Bhupinder Singh, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS), Ludhiana; Jagdish T Punjabi, renowned tax expert from Mumbai; and Rajneesh Kumar Gupta, Income Tax Officer.
The speakers addressed recent developments, practical considerations, and policy directions related to Tax Deducted at Source (TDS), offering valuable perspectives for tax professionals and DDOs alike.
An interactive Q&A session with DDOs followed, allowing participants to seek clarifications on operational challenges and compliance expectations.
The formal proceedings concluded with vote of thanks by Amit Gupta, Vice Chairman of the J&K Branch. Earlier, Jatin Malhotra, secretary of the Branch, anchored the proceedings.
The event was also graced by other senior dignitaries from Income Tax Department including R B Joshi, Additional CIT, Range 8(1), Mumbai, Surinder Kaur Waraich, Additional CIT (TDS-I), Chandigarh, Sonia Nain, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS-I), Chandigarh and many chartered accountants including Sanchit Aggarwal (treasurer), Ayush Mahajan & Ayush Sawhney (executive members).
The programme concluded with a networking session over high tea, fostering professional dialogue and collaboration.
